Construction games are a good way to develop children’s motor skills which is why we’ve come up with a simple game you could play together: making 3D geometric shapes out of toothpicks and modeling clay.

Younger children can start with simpler figures while older ones can test themselves on more complex constructions, such as making a complete Eiffel Tower with sticks!
It’s always a good idea to get the children to decide what they’re going to build then make a sketch of it before they start. Once that’s done, you’re good to go!
You only need:
- Chopsticks (wooden skewers, toothpicks, teeth or ice lolly sticks)
- Modeling clay for younger children, strong glue or silicone gun for older ones.
This technique can be used to make endless shapes and objects: houses, geometric shapes, buildings, bridges, or even to unleash a child’s own creativity, making up their own constructions, and while away a fun afternoon.
